Movement & Skincare evening

Since the dawn of time (well, when I opened the shutters to the studio in Spring 2023) I have envisioned Kore being about community and gathering.

At the end of August I had the pleasure of working alongside Aimee, a local skincare expert, to bring to life a collaborative event to the Kore community - it was an excellent 'toe-dipping' experience for me into the world of organising events, and one that I hope will kickstart a much wider initiative of events and experiences beyond the walls of the studio.

Here is a little write-up about our evening:

Aimee works locally in Sherborne as a pharmacist and aesthetics expert, based at The Abbey Pharmacy. Thinking that we might have a cross-over with our clientelle, she reached out about doing a collaborative evening. It was an immediate 'yes!' from me. I had been hoping to plan some events during the tail-end of 2026, and it seemed like the stars had aligned to provide the perfect opportunity. I was keen to meet some new people, try something new and hopefully enjoy the process.

Aimee was such a pleasure to work with, and both being business-owners in Sherborne, with children we seemed to connect in a few different ways. Despite school holidays, both being out of the country at various points, and juggling everything else that a busy life entails, we managed to keep in touch (mostly digitally!) sharing ideas, notes and photos as well as

visiting the event site at Leweston School, and pulling together logistics & marketing - it felt exciting!

The premise of the event was simple: we would find a lovely welcoming space for a Friday evening (a lovely end to the week we thought) and each take about 45minutes to do what we do best. Me: to lead us through some mindful movement, and Aimee to offer a talk about skincare. The evening would conclude with a gift-bag for people to take home.

Once I felt like all of the logistics were covered, I could relax into the notion of actually enjoying the evening we had planned. I think sometimes when you organise something, you almost forget that you will also be present during the same event - if that doesn't sound too strange! I was looking forward to doing some mat Pilates again, having spent so much time with the reformmers during the last three years. I was also very much looking forward to Aimee's talk, as someone who - I must confess - is fairly low maintenance, and definitely not knowledgeable when it comes to skincare!

The movement session: I wanted this to feel like a deep breath at the end of the busy week. Not a sweat-fest, muscle quivering challenging session - but rather a restorative and nourishing movement session. Calm, centering and grounded. We worked through lots of mobilising movements like some hip-opener stretches, a lying spine twist, even through in a cheeky downward dog! All supported by some centering strength work like curl-ups, with breath-work, and diamond-press for opening the chest & restoring the posture. It was really enjoyable, and I hope our participants enjoyed it too. Luckily I had Millie from our wonderful Kore team there as some Pilates back-up and moral support, so nice to move with her again, as now we're both teaching in the studio we're often like passing ships!

After a comfort break (in future, I think I would at this stage have some refreshments, maybe a cup of tea, or even a glass of wine - it was Friday eveing afterall!) it was time for Aimee's Skincare talk: We moved some chairs into a little semi-circle so we could chat comfortably together. Aimee gave us a goody-bag each, generously filled with sample products from one of her trusted brands. She gave a relaxed, informal and really interesting talk about the basics of skincare, more specifially focusing on supplements; which ones are worth it, and which are not. Because of, I think, the number of us (we were around 11 in total) and the lovely relaxed atmosphere, the talk became a nice open conversation, with people asking questions, and learning from each other - all guided by Aimee's clear expertise in this field. I left Aimee's talk absolutely more informed, but also inspired to do some more research into, and subsequenlty 'up my game' with my skincare routine!

The evening wrapped up with a few nice social conversations happening around the space, a couple of selfies, and a very-inspired Pilates teacher already thinking up what to do next! ;)

A huge thank you to Aimee for being an excellent team-mate.

And of course, to Kore team member Millie, gorgeous Kore members and new faces who attended - what a lovely bunch of ladies with whom to spend a Friday evening!
